Eric Althaus has been playing drums on a
serious level for nearly 30 years. Well schooled in music, Eric is
exceptionally versed in literally every musical style, and has the recordings to
prove it. He is also the Founding
member of the progressive rock group Equinox, whose
album "Color Of The Time" debuted in the Top
20 (#19) of the Japanese Album Charts in 1996 and held similar Top 40 positions
throughout many European, Asian, and South American countries between 1996 and
1997. According to ASCAP's final 2005 royalty distribution, Equinox songs still
receive prominent airplay in nearly 50 countries.

In addition to music, Eric is also
an avid Martial Artist. He received his 1st Dan (degree) Black Belt on June 4,
1988 from Master Moon Kim (Minnesota Tae Kwon Do Center) after four years of
hard training in TRADITIONAL Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. On March 10, 1990
Eric was awarded his 2nd Dan Black Belt by Master Moon Kim. Throughout the late
80's and early 90's, he participated in numerous nationally accredited TKD and
open-style tournaments - placing 1st in his sparring division nine times; 2nd
three times; and 3rd one time. He also won and placed numerous times in Forms
and Weapons competitions. With the mid 90's success of his band
Equinox, Eric decided to cut his tournament career short - opting instead to
focus on his musical career. However, he did continue to maintain Head
Instructor duties at his new Dojang, The Minnesota Black
Belt Academy. Though being an instructor for more than 14 years, he still
pursues excellence in his own training, and continues to further his Martial
Arts rank and standing. In early 2002, Eric and his Dojang became members of the
NKMAA
(National Korean Martial Arts Association).
Eric is also a collector of
ancient, modern, and exotic (fantasy style) weapons; he loves anything to do with horror movies,
monsters, special effects, Halloween, haunted houses (real, perceived, or
other); and he enjoys an amateur hobby as a magician and illusionist.
